GENETICS OF RECURRENT EARLY-ONSET DEPRESSION (GenRED)

What is Major Depression?
Major depression is an illness characterized by 2 or more weeks of persistent sad, anxious, irritable, or "empty" mood and/or a decreased ability to enjoy pleasurable things. Other symptoms can include:

  • Feelings of hopelessness
  • Feelings of worthlessness or guilt
  • Problems or changes in your sleep
  • Problems or changes in your appetite
  • Decreased energy, fatigue, being "slowed down"
  • Difficulty concentrating, remembering, making decisions
  • Persistent physical symptoms that do not respond to treatment, such as headaches, stomach problems, and chronic pain
  • Thoughts of death or suicide; suicide attempts
